Shipwrecks of Nova Scotia
Maps and Charts
In order to do research on shipwrecks and their locations, you will need to have a good knowledge of the coastline and coastal waters. To help you get started, we have put together a collection of maps and charts with varying degrees of detail. To view these images, click on the links below. Be patient, some of the files are large and will take time to download, but their quality is good, and they're worth the wait.
Due to copyright restrictions, Canadian nautical charts are generally not available for online viewing. Below is a link to a nautical chart index for the Atlantic provinces. These charts are available for purchase (in paper and electronic format) from fedpubs.com and other sources.

High Quality PDF Map
The Nova Scotia government has created a high quality province map in PDF format. This map is available for free download to your computer. To go to the map download site, click on the map image below. When you download the PDF map, we suggest you save it for future use. To see details on the map, you will need to zoom in to 150% or more. To print a portion of the map, zoom in on the area, then select Print - Current View.
This map is in PDF format and requires Adobe Reader software. If you don't have Adobe Reader, you can download it free of charge from Adobe via the link at right.
Topographic Maps
Environment Canada's website contains a series of scanned topographic maps showing Nova Scotia's shellfish harvesting areas. These maps contain a great deal of detail on the coastal regions. To access the maps, click on the image below, then select the areas and maps you want to view.
Boat Ramp MapsThe Nova Scotia Marine Fisheries Services' Website provides maps and details on public boat ramps. To access the maps, click on the image below, then select the areas and maps you want to view.
