Reason for Loss Accidently rammed and sunk by the British warship HMS Revenge. The Ypres reportedly sank within a few minutes of the collision. All aboard were rescued.

Other Information Ypres was a gate vessel tending the submarine nets at the entrance to Halifax Harbour. The nets were stretched between Maughers Beach (on McNabs Island) and York Redoubt.
